I have invaded…

June 4, 2009

Wha’sup all you followers of the athletically disinclined? I, the Gallery Crawler, can now be found spreading my poison not only on my own blog, but here at Bad At Sports. Just what you wanted, right? That’s what I thought. Well, from now until…uh, well, for now, I will be bring you my weekly Top 5 (or so) Picks! Hooray, everybody wins!

And now, for the first installment…

Top 5 Picks! 6/5/09 – 6/6/09

1. Daniel Everett at Scott Projects –

Daniel Everett

My buddy Daniel Everett has a solo show opening at Scott Projects this Saturday night, from 6-10pm. Should be fun, he makes really great work and Scott Projects always knows how to have a good time. From what I understand, it will be all never before seen (at least on the internet) work. Be there or be a regular quadrilateral.

2. A Birthday Party in the Family Room –

The Post Family crew is hosting a birthday party/art show for one of their members, Sam Rosen Friday night. He’ll be doing work dealing with memory through lots ‘n lots of pictures. There’s more too it that I’m saying, check out the details here. Hooray, affordable art! Take a trip to The Family Room and kick it on the couch.

3. Fill In The Blank (with creepy baby deer) –

Fill In The Blank, up in my neck of the woods, is putting on a show of work by Shirah Anderson, opening Friday night. This is the first time I’ve heard of her, but I love her work. Demonic baby deer, how could you possibly go wrong? The gallery is a little off the beaten path, but what’s the point of life without going to new places?

4. Paula Henderson talking about her work at Linda Warren –

DangerHighVoltage-L

Once again Linda is hosting an artist talk at her gallery. This time it’s Paula Henderson, who’s work is up at the gallery right now. The talk is on Saturday afternoon, at 2pm. I’ve gone to a few on these, and they’ve always been insightful. If you’re into the work, go check it out, if not, maybe you should go anyway. You might learn something new.

5. Books ARE art, damn it!

flying_book

All day Saturday, Printers Row is gonna be filled with bibliophiles, hawking their wares and discussing their obsessions. Come and join in on the fun at the Printers Row Lit Fest. Who knows who or what you might find there. It’s all free, but if you want to do any of the stuff in the Harold Washington Library, you need to get tickets (they’re free, I think it’s a capacity issue).

That’s it for this week kids. Enjoy!
